Laza (director and initiator of the "Rencontres du film court de Madagascar" film festival): You need to know that all the movie theatres here were closed during about 20 years and these theatres reopened in 2000 not with cinema movies but with video films, and during about 5 years people have been watching karate films with a Malagasy comedian, and now the only theatre where we can watch 35mm films is in the French cultural centre where they show 3 films a year (sometimes they show DVDs, too) and recently I heard that we can’t show even video films anymore in the theatres of Antananarivo (there are 3 of them), because they allowed only religion manifestation in those theatres. Anyway… there is no more audience for karate films.

The Russian version of the interview was published in a magazine of the cultural resistance SHO.
